I usually write about food on Fridays but I'm so excited about Peter H. Reynolds The Dot I couldn't wait to tell you about it.
My friend Lisa suggested I read it because she, too, had fallen in love with The Dot. So I immediately ordered it and it arrived this morning.
I am happy to say that I fell in love with it the moment I opened the first page. It's a magical book - I realize it's a picture book for little kids, but for anyone, anyone at all, who is involved in the arts, this book is for you.
The moral of Vashti's story is one that every artist - whether you're starting out or have been practising your art for decades, whether you're a writer or a painter or a dancer or a musician or a cook - needs to hear.
And we need to hear it over and over again. Peter Reynolds reminds us what's important about art - and life - in less than 500 words (that 500 words is a guess but I'm probably close).
So it actually doesn't matter if you're an artist or not. This book is for you. I bought one copy but I know without question that I'll be buying more. There are a lot of people on my list who could use The Dot or who would simply love it as much as I do.
