Remember way back when (I don't, but I can imagine) when you had a black phone, generally stuck to the wall, and you had a party line? That I do remember. You dialled a number and you either got an answer or a busy signal. Those were your options. Kind of like a computer 0 or 1 - that's it.
Now there are so many choices. You can have voicemail, call waiting, call display, two lines, four lines, cheap long distance. You can have a digital phone or skype or broadband. You can have... well, I can't tell you all of the things you can have because I can't bear to think about it.
I'm thinking of changing my phone provider because right now I'm using the very expensive old-fashioned provider. But when I look at the possibilities, I'm overwhelmed and I'm exhausted.
What do I do?
I've decided to look at only two options - to bundle my phone service in with my cable and my internet or to go outside with a broadband provider. There are dozens and dozens of options but I don't have the energy - or perhaps it's the patience - to look at all of them. And maybe, I think, I need this space age phone to go with it?
So what do you do?

I got rid of my cable tv, so I got bundled VoIP and internet. VoIP is not yet ready for anything but the most casual of users. My suggestion is get cable for your internet/TV if you watch enough of it, and then use a cell as your primary phone. You should be able to get a bundled internet/cell phone plan.

Kristen - I can bundle in a landline with my cable and internet (which are already bundled). Sounds a bit bed-time-y, doesn't it? I'm giving myself a few days to think about it...
