About Me

My photo
I live on the ocean, write women's fiction, love to read so much that it's an addiction rather than a hobby (I read an average of a book a day). I live on the wet west coast so it's a good thing that I like to walk in the rain.

Lunar Phases

I was reading - and enjoying Jeffery Deaver's new book, Cold Moon, this weekend, but what most struck me about it was the discovery that there are names for every moon of the year - not just the harvest moon.

There are a bunch of different names - but I've listed the ones I like best for each full moon. I don't know if their origins match up, and I don't really care. From now on, I'll call the moon in each of these months by these names.

January - Chaste Moon
February - Storm Moon
March - Moon of Winds
April - Budding Trees Moon
May - Flower Moon
June - Lovers' Moon
July - Blessing Moon
August - Dispute Moon
September - Harvest Moon
October - Blood Moon
November - Mourning Moon
December - Wolf Moon

Okay, who wouldn't love these names? And aren't they completely evocative of the month they represent?

Kate
