About Me

My photo
I live on the ocean, write women's fiction, love to read so much that it's an addiction rather than a hobby (I read an average of a book a day). I live on the wet west coast so it's a good thing that I like to walk in the rain.

Celebration of Light

I've just got in from the fireworks tonight. I'm lucky because I live right across the street from the beach and so all I have to do is walk out the door and done the hill a little and I'm there. The best part about the fireworks is the noise -

I love the way the crash of the fireworks echoes through the city - ten or twenty seconds after the lights.

And there are 400,000 people on my beach - young and old, from all over the Lower Mainland, and they're all oohing and ahing at the flashes of color and light.

Some people in my neighborhood complain about the noise, about the people, about the intrustion, but it's only 10:30 and it's all over - it's not as if it keeps us up all night. One of the reasons I live where I do is that I love the way the events of the city - the fireworks, the marathon, the Gay Pride parade - all happen on my front lawn. It makes me feel part of the community and so I can live with the noise, with the crowds, with the entertainment, 10 or 12 days and nights a year.
